Overview
The Carnegie Mellon School of Architecture needed a website that could reflect its reputation for innovation and rigor while giving prospective students and faculty a clear view into its programs, research, and community. The project aimed to unify a large body of content — from academic offerings to faculty work and events — into a modern, navigable platform.
Role
Primary Front End Developer
Drupal, Twig, Pattern Lab, Atomic Design, SASS, JavaScript
The Problem
The school’s existing site lacked cohesion and usability. With so much information spread across programs, labs, and initiatives, visitors often struggled to find what they needed. The challenge was to create a scalable component system that could handle complex academic content while preserving design quality and accessibility.
My Contribution
I was responsible for developing the full front end of the site using Drupal and Twig templates. Following an Atomic Design methodology, I implemented a component-driven system through Pattern Lab that provided consistency across program pages, faculty bios, research centers, and event listings.
SASS was used to manage modular styling, while custom JavaScript supported interactive features and enhanced navigation. I collaborated closely with the design team to ensure layouts translated seamlessly from Figma into responsive, accessible templates.
Impact
The new site gave the School of Architecture a modern digital platform that aligned with Carnegie Mellon’s academic prestige. Editors could manage and publish complex program and research content more efficiently, while prospective students and faculty gained clear, structured pathways to discover the school’s work. The result was a site that combined academic depth with a clean, engaging user experience.
